Treadsection and Legs Progress Report
The beginning of my work was more of a discovery of just how different my treadsections were from the club standard. I have one of the few "Dana Covert" made treadsections and she used thicker metal and the construction design is different. The end result was that I had to modify Mike's measurements given in his scrapbook to get everything to work correctly with my setup.
I also had a major deviation in that the last upgrade created steel plates that the leg supports attached to. I decided to keep these and I used JB Weld to attach the 1" square tubing directly to the Leg Support Plates.
I also got a Cad program to map out how the structure was going to be assembled. This was well worth the time it took to learn how to draw ( I still haven't tackled a 3 dimensional drawing yet.)
So, here is what I have at this time.
Here is the inside of the treadsections after I stripped out the old stuff.
This is my new Bottom Plate.
The is the new Sub-Waist Plate.
To ensure that I had a proper alignment for the legs - I decided to build the leg section first and then use it to align the Leg Support Base Uprights.
After getting the bottom JB welded together - I was then able to continue the construction of this area.
I included the picture of my new waist plate here because while I was working on the cad drawings to get everything to work - I noticed that the sub-waist plate and my current waist plate didn't look right. I then discovered that my waist plate was not club standard and had to be replaced to get the correct look for the leg section.
My Bottom and Sub-Waist plates are based on Mike Joyce's Scrap Book. My new Waist plate is based on the blueprints in the Member's only area of the B9Builder's Club web site.
One last thing for this update - Strut Mounts for the Strong Arm struts - Well, I found out from Mike that an easy way to make this a lot cheaper then buying them is to use Metric Grease Fittings! I found at NAPA part number 715-2019 - then using my Dremel tool with a heavy duty cutting disk and a file - Strut mounts!!
That's it for now.
